• Universal use: We left the States without a clear itinerary, instead picking our next destination one country at a time. So, we couldn’t limit ourselves to a power adapter that only worked in certain regions. Instead, going with the BESTEK option, we knew we’d have an adapter that would work in every place we visited.

Story from the Road

 

As we mentioned above, it’s fairly easy to forget one of the BESTEK’s adapters in an outlet somewhere. Without thinking, you pull the converter’s cord out of the wall but leave the adapter plugged in. This isn’t a great situation, as it turns your converter into a worthless paperweight until you can find a replacement adapter for the region. 

 

Fortunately, finding these replacement adapters is pretty easy to do, something we discovered the hard (easy?) way. While we were living in Cape Town, we took a weekend trip out to Stellenbosch for some hiking in wine country. During this “staycation” of sorts, we both had to do a little work (plus charge our phones), so we brought our power adapter. 

 

After a somewhat rushed check-out from the room we rented and drive back into Cape Town, we realized we’d left the adapter in the wall back in Stellenbosch. Without it, our BESTEK was temporarily useless in South Africa. A short stroll to a local corner store later, we had a new adapter (for the equivalent of a couple bucks). Far easier to replace these little plastic parts than an entire power adapter system!
